Yap Sandiego Ancenstral House
It is considered to be one of the oldest residential house in the Philippines, it was built sometime between 1675 and 1700. It was originally owned by a Chinese merchant named Don Juan Yap and his wife, Doña Maria Florida with their 3 children. The house is made up of coral stones that were glued together with egg whites. The wooden parts were made of hardest woods, “balayong” and molave, of all time.
TRIVIA: The original cross is encased inside the wooden cross that is found in the center of the chapel. This is to protect the original cross from people who chipped away parts for souvenir purposes or in the belief that the cross possesses miraculous powers.
Basilica del Sto. Niño
The Minor Basilica of the Santo Niño or Basilica Minore del Santo Niño is a 16th century church in Cebu City, Philippines. It was built purportedly on the spot where the image of the Santo Niño, a sculpture depicting the Holy Child Jesus was found by Spanish explorers in 1565 preserved in a burned wooden box which was left behind during the 1521 Magellan expedition.
Fort San Pedro
It is a military defense structure in Cebu built by the Spanish. The fort is triangular in shape, with two sides facing the sea and the third side fronting the land. The two sides facing the sea were defended with artillery and the front with a strong palisade made of wood.
The most historically significant plaza in Cebu, its land and age-old acacia trees are witness to the many phases and stories of Cebu’s rich history.
